Open up your iTunes and take a look at the "Top 25 Most Played" playlist. What's the #1 song, and more importantly how many times have you relentlessly put it in your ears? (It's listed as the "playcount.")
Mine happens to be...
"Pot Kettle Black" by Wilco - 126 times.
The comment board is now closed.

Get to the gone - Static-X
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
How come nobody is listing the playcount number?
Don't use itunes, but my audioscrobbler says the number one is Ill Mitch - Rap to World
It's fun watching a post crash and burn before your eyes! :)
Brand New - Play Crack the Sky (111 times)
"Somebody Told Me" by The Killers- 90 times.
Does this slow the flood of impending disaster?
Anthrax - Potters Field (Hypo Luxa Hermes Pan Remix)
a measly 21 times, cause i don't *just* listen to the one song ^_^
"House Of Fun" by Madness - 54 times
Nina Simone, "Feelin' Good." However, I recently reinstalled iTunes so it has only been played 25 times.
"Misery" by Greenday --- Forty-seven times since the fifth of April.
"Inolvidable" - Bebo y Cigala from "Lagrimas Negras" - Great album of a Cuban pianist and a Spanish flamenco singer (voted best album of 2003 by NYTimes) - shameless plug :)
- how many times? I don't know. I don't use Itunes (I use Windows and Itunes is a beast on this system) - I use Foobar 0.8.3 (http://www.foobar2000.org/) - another shameless plug :>)
The White Stripes - Denial Twist (170)
According to iTunes (which I hate, I'm just too lazy to hax foobar again)
Happy Days Toy Town by The Small Faces played 233 times. 234. Jesus...
I've got a three-way tie: "Walk On Water" Aerosmith, "Can't Compare" Joe Perry, and "Volunteers" Jefferson Airplane, all at 15 times each since my computer crashed in April. Before that I believe it was "Come Together" Aerosmith at 13 times.
Float on - Modest Mouse (33 times... I could swear I've listened to it waaaaay more than that.)
How does it keep track? how many times I've actually listened to it or how many times I specifically picked that song to listen to?
"Gentlemen" -- Afghan Whigs played 42 times
Beautiful Night - Burden Brothers (4)
Of course I just switched systems and my laptop doesn't have all of the great data my iPod does.
"Time To Waste" - Alkaline Trio (9)
I just reloaded my iTunes library because I happened to delete my iTunes database, before I did that it was "Do You Miss Me [Killians]" by Lucky Boys Confusion and was upwards of 30 listens.
I tend to listen to whole albums at once. #1 is the "So Says I" by the Shins (55 times) but every song from that album is up there at the top (43+ listens each).
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, 37 times since getting a new computer three weeks ago. This is a disease, it really really is.
Hmm. I listen to the tunes on my iPod more than through iTunes and I do usually listen only to whole albums like Lindsey, but here are the top five in iTunes (I know you asked for the #1 but I'm feeling ambitious.
1) Goodbye Baby Blue - Ray Wilson
2) 15 Beers Ago - Deaf Pedestrians
3) Girl U Want - Dev (Tank Girl Soundtrack)
4) Gotta Get Up from Here - Ellie Lawson
5) If I Can Dream - Elvis Presley
"Hey i think i love you" - David cassidy and "Babies on Fire"- Venus in Furs
Before my computer crashed in May, it was undoubtably a Wilco song as well.
Now, it's E-Pro, from Beck's new album.
I very recently reinstalled iTunes, in that brief time I have apparently listened to Bastard by Ben Folds the most (9 times). But audioscrobler thinks it more apt to list The Crooked Fingers performing "When U Were Mine" as my top track. I have to side with AS on this one, as it dates back further than just 2 weeks.
Elliot Smith- Everything means nothing to me. Played 8 times. I just got my mac mini a few weeks ago, and I have yet to get speakers for it (the built in speaker sucks lots of cock).
Pearl Jam - Footsteps (27 times)
Current playlist...Modest Mouse - Float On (31 times)
I sooo stinkin' love this site. You da man Steve!
Smoothie Song - Nickel Creek
All mine say 1 or 2!?! Is that a per session count? It would have to be in the 50's at least. (WMP10 on MCE 2005)
Perfect Situation - Weezer(82 times)
Killer Queen by Queen (102 times)
And Mike you rock one of my close friends is the daughter of one of the members of deaf pedestrians.
The Girl from Ipanema - Getz|Gilberto (97 times)
Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind- 180 times.
::hums:: doo doo doot, doo da doo doo...
Such Great Heights- The Postal Service
134, but I usually listen to the songs on the iPod itself, not the iTunes, and they were recently all deleted, so this isn't entirely accurate.
I'm another of the iPod bunch--I rarely listen to music through iTunes when I'm on the computer. But tied for tops for me are "Calling Occupants (of Interplanetary Craft)" and "Sub-Rosa Subway", both from the album 3:47 E.S.T. by Klaatu. 18 times a piece. The rest of my top ten are mostly songs from Alan Parsons and the Alan Parsons Project.
"You Shook Me All Night Long" -- AC/DC
Kinda scared that this is mine, but
Climbing up the Walls- Radiohead (65 times)
"How Good Can It Get" - The Wallflowers (20)
Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin 41 times
"Sha Sha" — Ben Kweller (274)
Kelly Clarkson, Since YOu been gone. I would rather not say how many times (183) and yes I am a straight man
Army - Ben Folds Five (72 times)
The Doors- Touch me (43 times)
There are actually some above that, but since I have a shared library and the only songs above it are ones that both I and my sister listen to, I'm counting this one.
Helena- My Chemical Romance ( 52 times)
"Pig" by Sparklehorse. It helps that my five year old thinks it totally rocks. Which it does.
I never told you what I did for a living - My Chemical Romance
Oh yeh. that song, 152 times.
1. Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin (68 times) (Theme from Finding Nemo)
2. You've Got A Friend In Me - Randy Newman (52 times) (Theme from Toy Story)
3. Baby Beluga - The Wiggles (52 times)
4. Wheels On The Bus - Raffi (24 times)
5. Born Too Slow - The Crystal Method (17 times)
I have a four-year-old. Does it show?
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
...I didn't even know that song was on my playlist. Interesting...
Wow mine is low! Maybe it's from having to reimport all my music into iTunes again at one point though... who knows. Anyway - the highest ones are the 2 radio stations I listen to: bagelradio.com (84) and woxy.com (50) - but next up is Say Something New by The Concretes at 21 times (seems so low).
I use audioscrobbler, too:
Such Great Heights by The Postal Service, Existentialism on Prom Night by Straylight Run, and Chocolate by Snow Patrol-
All 87 times
It's Your Dog Charlie Brown - Vince Guaraldi
This is what my wife listens to on the iPod when she goes to sleep each night.
Interpol - Evil (29 times)

AFI - Bleed Black (132 times)
It's Baba O'Reilly...btw
Johnny Boy - You Are the Generation That Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve - 73 times (according to

KIll The Hippies, By the Casualties. (562 times)
I dont like those damn hippies.
Spicelab – Falling
I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it, seeing as it’s been on my harddisk for close to 10 years and has gone from player to player. But it’s an 18 minutes long, ambient tune, and considering how many times I’ve had it on single repeat for an entire day or even several in a row, I’ve played this tune easily 10,000s of times.
It has worn off a little as the years passed, but it only slightly.
"100 Ways To Be A Good Girl" by Skunk Anansie
Whiskeytown - Midway Park (532 times)
I swear it's been more than that though.

iTunes: Timido, Flans (30) ... 80s Spanish pop. I'm afraid of what this says about me or my musical tastes. I then turned to Audioscrobbler in the hopes that it would redeem me a bit but it tells me that The Girl from Ipanema, Astrud Gilberto is in the lead (9 times ... I guess I don't connect as often as I thought to AS). Oh my. :D
Haha...I almost didn't believe it when I read it...

First Steve, iTunes..... I LOVE YOU MAN. and secondly, my numbers are a bit misleading, 'cos I don't always play out of iTunes-- I mostly play the CDs I toast. However-- top 'o' the playlist is "Lemon Meringue Pie" by Jeremy Fisher-- Canadian like me so you may not know his music, but I love him too. (10 plays) After that would be "Your Body is a Wonderland" by John Mayer (9) tied with Big Sugar "I want you Now" (also Canadian). Finally, "Life after Lisa" by Bowling for Soup.
All of these get significant CD play as well.

In a close second:

The first seven on the list are streaming radio stations and the eighth is a custom sound effect, but the winner at number nine for an actual song is Old 97's Question with a whopping five plays.

Linkin Park - "Somewhere I Belong"
Actually, at work I listen to iTunes exclusively on my "not recently played" smart playlist, so no one song has really gotten played more than any others. Older songs naturally have higher playcount, but that doesn't mean I like them more. I think of it as an iTunes fair-play system, where every song gets a fair shake at its 3 minutes of glory, never to return for at least six weeks!
Unfortunately, I cannot access this playlist from home. On my home machine, which I rarely use to play music (I play through the TiVo instead), the most commonly played song is "Nicotine" by Ani DiFranco, a mere 15 times.
Some cool choices, especially "Climbing Up the Walls" by Radiohead and "Secret World" by Peter Gabriel.
1. Cortez the Killer, Neil Young, 151.
2. Tape Loop, Morcheeba, 136.
3. My Weakness, Moby, 105.

Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz 3 times
As One - Dropkick Murphys. Just installed Tiger on the "old" iMac so I lost the counts from the "old" iTunes.
Moby's "Porcelain", although I just got a Mac, so it's only 4 times apparently. I think it's more than that, though.
20 Year Old Lover - Juliette and the Licks - (27)
followed closely by:
On Top - The Killers (24) and Lullaby -The Cure (24) and My Baby - The Pretenders (23)
Bottle up and explode- Elliott smith, play count, 72.
that's awesome about the pot kettle black thing, my band did a garage rock cover of it and it's one of my favorite bands.
Bottle up and explode- Elliott smith, play count, 72.

Getsumei Fuuei-39 times
Feel Good Inc-27 times
The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl, 67 times.
In which time I suppose I really ought to have been out, falling in love with a girl.
The Street Dogs - Savin Hill
Colorful- Rock Star soundtrack
Hallelujah- Rufus Wainwright
Good Riddance- Green Day
Don't know the exact number, but has to be over 100 each.
I guess I'm up there in terms of playcount: 'Up the Ladder to the Roof,' by the Nylons - 647 times. It eclipses anything else in my library by about 400 plays ¬_¬;
Well, I'm just starting out with a new iPod and revamped iTunes so my numbers ain't too high just yet. But at a count of 4, I got Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. Not a good sign.
"Paint Pastel Princess" Silverchair
A Stare Like Yours - The Thermals (19 times)
Mirah: Cold Cold Water
Mind you, the majority of this was over a week-long period where I listened to the song every chance I could get. My roomate hates it and can sing every word.

Morning Musume - The Manpower!!! (68 Times)

Up in Arms - The Foo Fighters [43 times, but that's only because i've just downloaded itunes]
in winamp, not iTunes:
Every Day [Crazy Penis Remix] - Central Living (7 times)
i just paved this computer, so... not a lot yet
I am an iPod Person as well, and on my comp I use Winamp but I just reinstalled it so I can't believe its lies.
According to Audioscrobbler, I have listened to "Birdhouse in your Soul" by They Might be Giants 249 times. Good Gravy! That is astounding!!
Via Chicago - Wilco (122 times)
Queen: Boheimiam Rhapsody
The Arcade Fire - Un Annee Sans Lumiere, a whopping 194 times. Then again, I have been using my ipod and itunes for years, so I've collected tons of metadata...
In my puny collection of 1079 songs, number two is a tie between "Gotta Travel On" by Jerry Lee Lewis and "Sinking in the Lonesome Sea" by June Carter Cash at 42 plays each.
Number one is "One More Night" by Bob Dylan with an ungodly 815 plays. I don't recall listening to it that many times, but iTunes don't lie.
Topping the list at 229 times is 'Symphony #9' by Beethoven, with a close second at 175 times, KoRn's 'Wake Up Hate'.
Rather different music.
"happy happy" by the lovekevins at sixty plays.
gotta love norwegian bands :)
TV on the Radio - Staring at the sun (40)
Well, I do occasionally listen to music on my computer, but it's usually from a CD anyway.....so if I were to guess I'd have to say its probably something like this:
1) Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars-David Bowie, about a quarter of a million times
2) Monster Side - Addict, probably in the vicinity of 500 times
3) Dreams in Digital - Orgy, about 400 times
4) God - Tori Amos, around 300
I kid you not on these numbers....and I'm probably guestimating on the low end, as I work 12 hour shift and sometimes repeat the same song for hours at a time.....My co-workers hate me.
New Favorite - "LA Song" by Christian Kane....it gives me chills.
Tied between Jangling Jack and Stagger Lee, both by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Your Love -- The Outfield (48 times since February)
Probably because the lyrics ring true for me.
The Hand That Feeds - NIN - 88 times
I don't have itunes, but the songs I most listen to would be Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits, Africa by Toto (I know, I know) and anything by the Darkness or Snow Patrol.
I guess that's why they came up with the shuffle.
I am envious that you have an iPod to begin with, but I find myself using audion over itunes on the comp regardless, that way my mp3's stay as mp3's. Good choice of Wilco, though I can't remember how that song goes. At least it sounds a little funny and upbeat..perhaps sarcastic too, which is a nice pill to swallow.
By the By, whenever I see that "Dad's talking about stuff they want" futureshop commercial, That dad talking about how he'd actually enjoying jogging with an mp3 player reminds me of you, and this is like, before I read this post!
This is the part where I shut up and not write a book about it.

I was feeling embarassed about My Chemical Romance occupying half of my top ten "most played" spots, and then I noticed that four other people had already mentioned them. I feel less like a faux-goth teeny bopper with sophisticated Sneeze fans on my side!
My Chemical Romance - "Helena" at 210 times.
I've been listening to it whenever I need to get pumped up, including almost every morning in the shower. I sing along loudly and pretend to be dramatically anguished for my music video debut. It's a great way to start your day, which is strange considering the video includes not only a funeral but an animated corpse.
